Natural Ingredients That We Use

Home    Education    Natural Ingredients That We Use

Have you ever asked yourself, “What exactly is in the soap I’m putting all over my body?” We, the people of Goat JoJo, asked this question and found out that many soaps available today continue to contain dozens of chemicals, some of which can be harmful to your skin. After doing extensive research, we have dedicated ourselves to being a leading provider of Goat Milk Soap that contains only carefully selected natural, organic ingredients.

Today, we’re going to share with you the results of our research. This includes the top 7 harmful ingredients commonly used in soap as well as the natural ingredients that have chosen for every goat milk bar of soap.

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING INGREDIENTS ARE NOT USED IN ANY OF THE SOAPS MADE BY GOAT JOJO. BEFORE YOU LEARN ABOUT THE NATURAL INGREDIENTS THAT WE USE, THESE ARE THE POTENTIALLY HARMFUL INGREDIENTS THAT COULD BE FOUND IN THE HOUSEHOLD SOAP YOU USE.

#1 - GMO Ingredients

GMO ingredients are made from genetically modified plants to help them be resistant to disease, pests, and certain environmental elements. Soaps that contain petroleum-based glycerin are often made from GMO oil, such as soybean oil and canola oil. As of now, the effects of applying GMO products on the skin are unknown which is why many countries around the world have banned GMO products. This is also the reason why we refuse to use GMO products and source on quality, organic ingredients to make our soaps.

#2 - Toxic Dyes

Certain red dyes are known to be carcinogenic and mutagenic. This means the chemicals will infiltrate your skin and alter the DNA in your body. The most common dye that uses this is an inexpensive pink dye and the ingredients you should watch for on labels include:

  • Colorant
  • Blue Lake (or any of the “Lake” ingredients)
  • Yellow Number 1
  • D & C
  • FC & C

These are just a few of the toxic dyes which may be made from petroleum, acetone, and tar. Studies have shown that colors derived from these chemicals have a risk in our everyday lives where impurities can lead to toxic effects on the nervous system.

Just so you know, we never use any dyes to change the color of our Goat Milk Soap. Every bar is formed based on the ingredients we use. The result? We make one-of-a-kind bars with an array of natural colors and swirls.

#3 - Parabens

Parabens are common preventatives used in many lotions, shampoos, creams, and soaps. Since 2011, numerous countries around the world have started to ban this chemical, especially in products made specifically for children. Parabens are more than just a problem for skin, they pose an extreme danger to human health. These chemicals can be absorbed into the bloodstream and disrupt normal bodily functions. Parabens have been linked to breast cancer and a variety of hormone-related impairments, reproductive issues, cancer, and more.

#4 - Phthalates

Research has identified a link between phthalates leading to eczema and allergies due to early exposure to babies, infants, and children. There is also a link between phthalates and cancer, hormone problems, lower IQ, and more. This is a chemical you and your family should actively try to avoid and the reason why we strive to provide pure, safe soaps for all ages.

#5 - Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

This cheap and commercially approved chemical is popular throughout the beauty and soap industry. Sodium lauryl sulfate has a strong ability to remove oily stains and residues. Unfortunately, sodium lauryl sulfate is a skin irritant that strips away the body’s natural oils, leaving it dry, irritated, and itchy. There are many safer, natural alternatives to this chemical, which is why we refuse to use it!

#6 - Alcohols

You’ll often find alcohol mixed in during the soap making process. It’s commonly used to help other ingredients stick together. However, if you ever wondered why your hands dried out, this could be the reason why.

#7 - Synthetics

There are many kinds of man-made synthetic ingredients, such as preservatives and fragrances, being added to soap. These chemicals are known to cause irritation and reactions to people with eczema, psoriasis, and sensitive skin. With so many natural ingredients available to make soaps smell amazing, we don’t see a need to add any synthetic ingredients in any of our goat milk soaps.

We’ll stay committed to producing only 100% all-natural goat milk soap by being completely transparent about the ingredients we use.

#1 - Goat’s Milk

Can you believe we add up to 35% of this ingredient in our bars of soap? That’s right. The foundation of all our soaps contains organic, farm-fresh goat’s milk. #2 - Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Did you know, olive oil has been an ingredient used in soap for over thousands of years? Olive oil aids a deep moisturizing effect on the skin that lasts longer while making it perfect for drier, sensitive skin. It has antioxidant properties which help to repair damaged skin and anti-inflammatory properties to help heal skin abrasions, rashes, and sunburns. Olive oil is one of our main ingredients for a reason and is known to provide much-wanted relief for people with eczema and psoriasis.

#3 - Organic Coconut Oil

Ever wondered how a natural bar of soap gets its creamy lather? Coconut oil is a powerful ingredient puts Vitamin E and antioxidants on your skin. Its ability to moisturize, soothe, and reduce the effects of aging (i.e. wrinkles and saggy skin) makes this a go-to for both men and women. Best of all, coconut oil is not only good for the body but also beneficial to the environment.
